Indulgent Chocolate Cake

This World Chocolate Day, tackle the following recipe to create an indulgent Chocolate Cake for the whole family enjoy in less than an hour.

Ingredients

To master this recipe, you will need to get your hands on the following ingredients.

  • 200g golden caster sugar
  • 200g unsalted butter (soft)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 200g self raising flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 100g milk chocolate
  • 200g butter (soft)
  • 400g icing sugar
  • 5 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp milk

Method

Follow the steps below to create your own Indulgent Chocolate Cake.

  1. Heat oven to 190C/170C fan (Gas mark 5). Butter the base and sides of two 20cm round sandwich tins and line the bases with baking parchment.
  2. Beat together 200g golden caster sugar, 200g unsalted butter, 4 large eggs, 200g self raising flour, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 2 tbsp milk and pinch of salt in a large bowl until the mixture is pale.
  3. Split the mixture into the tins and bake for 20 minutes.
  4. Allow to cool for 10 minutes in the tin before removing and letting cool completely on a wire rack.
  1. Add 100g of milk chocolate in a bowl (heat resistant) bowl before melting in a microwave. Ensure to stir every 30 seconds and leave to cool for 5 minutes.
  2. Use a fork to combine 200g butter and 400g icing sugar before utilising an electric whisk.
  3. Gently sift 5 tbsp cocoa powder with a pinch of salt before pouring in the melted chocolate and 2 tbsp of milk. Mix until smooth.
  4. Spread half the buttercream over one cake sandwich and place the other one on top. Simply spread the remaining buttercream on top and enjoy.
